I'm considering taking 6 days off in March to hang out in Austin during the South by Southwest festivities. The most exciting part, however, would be a 5 day (roundtrip) motorcycle ride. What follows is a potential itinerary.

Friday, March 13th, 6pm-11pm: Leaving work, motorcycle 375 miles from Foster City, CA to Los Angeles, CA, pit-stopping with family or friends.

Saturday, March 14th, 6am-6pm: Motorcycle 729 miles from Los Angeles, CA to Cabinetlandia, NM, camping for the night.

Sunday, March 15th, 4am-4pm: Motorcycle 686 miles from Cabinetlandia, NM to Austin, TX.

-------

Sunday, March 22nd, 5am-10pm: Motorcycle ~700 miles. Camp for the night.

Monday, March 23rd, 8am-7pm: Motorcycle ~600 miles to San Diego, CA. Eat dinner at El Cotixan Taqueria.
Monday, March 23rd, 8pm-9:30pm: Motorcycle 120 miles from San Diego, CA to Los Angeles Ca. Stay with friends/family.

Tuesday, March 24th, 5am-10pm: Motorcycle 375 miles from Los Angeles, CA to Foster City, CA. Take a shower at work.

Any suggestions for things to check out between Los Angeles and Austin (aside from Cabinetlandia) would be highly appreciated.

In related news, it's a crying shame that Los Alamos is ~600 miles out of the way.

Cabinet Magazine is probably the most intersting collection of obscure facts and arcana that I've found since The Kircher Society went under. Makes sense, I suppose, considering that the AKS would often link to their online content.

On Wednesday I taught Max how to shave1. I've also made tentative plans to teach Brian, Paul, and Chris. All I know is I better be receiving some Father's Day cards come June, as this may be the closest I'll ever come to parenthood.2

In other news, until this morning I'd forgotten how absolutely terrifying motorcycling in a heavy rain is. Think driving without glasses and horrible vision.3 Or without windshield wipers.4 That's ok, though, as we all need a little terror5 in our lives.

1 With a straight razor.
2 Particularly with the option of vasectomya seeming more and more attractive.
3 Speculation on the part of someone with perfect vision.
4 Slightly exagerating, I at least have a hand to wipe away smear the moisture.
5 Pun intended.

a Provided I'm not already sterile from the amount of pyridine, etc that I've been exposed to.
